A 70-year-old woman from Uganda has successfully given birth to twins through IVF treatment, setting a record as the oldest woman to deliver in Africa.
According to the Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Centre in Kampala. Safina Namukwaya welcomed a baby girl and boy on Wednesday, with both mother and infants reported to be in good health following a caesarean delivery.
Despite facing complications during the pregnancy and dealing with the absence of her children’s father, Namukwaya expressed resilience and credited her faith for overcoming societal judgment and previous challenges, including miscarriages and the loss of her husband in the 1990s.
This marks her second delivery in three years, as she previously gave birth to a girl named Sarah in 2020.
