Dogs donned traditional Nigerian attire as they strutted down the runway at the annual Lagos Dog Carnival, celebrating all things canine on Saturday.
Numerous dog owners brought their furry companions to the festivities in the commercial capital. Organizer Jackie Idimogu explained that this year’s carnival theme, ‘Wazobia,’ aimed to honor Nigeria’s heritage.
Idimogu emphasized the significance of organizing the Lagos Dog Carnival, stating that it holds great value for both dog dads and dog moms. Throughout the year, there are limited opportunities for them to gather specifically to celebrate their beloved canine companions. She added, ‘When I say paw, I mean p-a-w, paw babies.’
In addition to the judged competitions, the event featured demonstrations on pet care and training, along with guidance on veterinary care and pet adoption. George Nnaoba, an architect and dog owner, stressed the importance of the educational aspects of the carnival.
Entrepreneur and dog owner Didi Afe, attending the festival for the first time, described the atmosphere as ‘amazing.’ Various breeds, including Pomeranians, Cane Corsos, and Siberian Huskies, showcased their outfits at the festival, which marked its fifth year.
